After the pre-production prototype for this stove won the prestigious Gear Junkie Best of Show award at the Winter 2019 Outdoor Retailer Show, we knew we had nailed the perfect design for those looking for an awesome cooking experience, whether at base camp or tailgating at a football game (when we can do that again, of course!).

GSI Outdoors’ Pinnacle Pro Stove utilizes a unique space efficient design allowing it to automatically expand upon opening and compact down upon closing. This is in combination with twin 11K BTU high efficiency burners and retracting legs.

Everything comes together to fold out into a full-size table-top stove and shrinks down to 1.4 inches high for ultra-compact storage. For added convenience, the stove has a dual piezo ignition system and a non-stick coated boil-over tray for ease of clean up.

This stove is the great! The burners are so effective and heat up super fast. Defiantly recommend to overlanders.

Compact Stove

I've sent two inquiries to GSI customer service to return a propane adapter hose that I need to return but they have not responded. The stove is nice and compact. Burners light only with a lighter. The ignitor does not. The metal wind enclosure is a little thin, feels cheap.

Not consistent

I have to agree with one of the previous reviewers. This stove is finicky to say the least. I paid $250 and would like to love this stove but now my regulator stopped working. And it's out of stock. Will try to contact customer service if see they are willing to send another one under warranty. Piezoelectric ignitor works some of the times which os my biggest complaint. Once the stove gets going amd works this thing puts out the btus for sure. I have used my stove around 7 times in the last year and love it when it lights but usually have to use a lighter which defeats the whole purpose of the ignitor.

Wanted to love this

So, yes, I got this unit for the esthetics,- or rather the design. Having "RV'd" my Subaru Outback, I needed to replace my ancient Coleman white-gas stove with something more compact to fit my rig. Main complaints I saw not the internet were
1) Long boil time,
2) low efficiency,
3) poor wind protection,
4) no handle to carry the unit by.
The first three are probably related issues.

So here is what I learned on its maiden voyage this Memorial Day weekend:

To Love:
1) Compact and well designed.
2) I boiled a 16 Oz cup of water for Coffee in 2 minutes, 1 L water in a 3 liter pan in 6 minutes. I made a wind screen/flame focuser out of a 6" duct flange that reduced this boil time to 4 minutes.
3) Fits/stows very nicely and compactly
4) I had worried about the cut sheetmetal edges being sharp, though this was not an issue
5) The size of the unit is perfect for two reasonably sized pans to run simultaneously.

Not to love (so much)
1) The regulator knob turns about 180 degrees (one half turn) and only fraction this dims the flame, so there is basically no adjustment possible between full-on and lower heat. Odd for a unit that's supposed to be the simmer-king. A better regulator would've been expected.
2) I can't address efficiency directly, ie: how many boils per 16Oz can of propane, etc. But judging by the reduction in canister-weight over the 4 uses I put it to, seems like you'll burn through a canister pretty quickly.
3) You can't really stow with the gas-fitting in place as the unit will not lie flat due to the cover over the gas nib. This may be of design so you won't stow with the fitting in place and won't try to run the stove unless it's set up on its feet (needs good air flow). But it really adds an extra step in setup/tear down for travel.
4) The piezo-igniter on one of the burners gave up the ghost after 3-4 uses. This seems a common problem with such igniters.
5) Wind resistance is a bit of an issue, though less so for me in my set up and less of an issue with the custom shield that I made.
6) The unit is a bit heavy and cumbersome to carry, though this was not an issue for me as the unit will stay where it is.

So, overall, I agree with some reviewers that, for the price ($250, I see that the price has been reduced since I bought this, argh!), there should have been more attention to the practical details and optimum performance. Not sure I'd consider this unit if it hadn't been for my space/design constraints. That said, and not having tried other units more compact than my old Coleman, this will probably work out OK.
