How To Fight The Winter Blues

Come February, we are in peak winter season and depending on where you live, the weather can get a bit dreary. We’ve pulled together some tips to keep your spirits high and knock those winter blues that can creep up so easily.

Find Your Winter Hobby

While the weather can take a turn in the winter, this doesn’t mean you have to stop doing all the things you love. If you’re lucky enough to live near a mountain or any outdoor recreation, utilize the weather and enjoy what it has to offer! There are endless winter activities out there. If you don’t ski or snowboard, try snowshoeing, or take a weekend to rent a cabin and go sledding. Find some way to be physically active in the cold weather. The boost of serotonin and the excitement that comes from planning a trip will curb any blue feelings you may have.

Get Creative

This is a great time to pick up new or old hobbies indoors! If the weather doesn’t permit you to get outside, try new and creative things you can do inside. Begin writing, try painting, buy some coloring books, cook up some new recipes, begin baking, or learn to knit! As dorky as these activities may sound to some of you, they are great outlets that can get your creative juices flowing. Most of them will leave you with something you’ve created, and the satisfaction of improving a new skill.

Get Social!

While you may feel like curling up into a ball and staying in bed, this is not the time to retreat to your warm blankets. Staying social will help you keep your energy flowing, and spending time with friends and family will always make you feel better. Cooking is a great way to bring the people you love together, so host a dinner or two. Make some new cocktails, and have friends bring over their own favorite drinks!
