Camp Hot Dog Bar

You’ve heard of a taco bar, but have you ever heard of a hot dog bar? Here’s how it works: gather your friends at your favorite camp spot, fire up the stove or a roaring campfire, assemble your topping options in bowls, and let your guests build their own gourmet hot dog experience.

The hot dog topping bar is a great way to enjoy hot dogs while pleasing a group of people with differing tastes. So many topping choices can be overwhelming. We’ve assembled our favorite comfort food-inspired condiment combinations and cooking methods to act as your guide when venturing into the hot dog topping wilderness. Grab your bun and let’s do this.

THE BLT

This dog is deli inspired and oh-so-delicious. We’re going to start with the B - set up your Selkirk Stove and Bugaboo Square Frypan. Fry 2 strips of bacon per hot dog according to your desired crispiness. While the bacon cooks, add an inch or so of water in the bottom of a Bugaboo 14” Frypan and bring to a boil on medium heat. Add four hot dogs to the pan, and rotate using Pivot Tongs until hot dogs are evenly browned.

Dress your bun with two strips of bacon and mayo squeezed from a Condiment Bottle. Then add your dog, some chopped lettuce, and diced tomatoes. For an added crispy touch, toast your buns in the Bugaboo Square Frypan pan before dressing. Bon appetit!

THE TACODOG

This is a hot dog bar, not a taco bar - but wait, why can’t you have both? We’re taking these taco-inspired dogs right to the pan… the Bugaboo Square Pan, that is. Prep your dogs by slicing them *almost* in half lengthwise, so the two halves open like a book. Heat your pan over medium-high heat, and place hot dogs open-face-down in the pan. Keep hot dogs flat in the pan and cook for a few minutes, then flip and cook the backside until the outside is crisp. Remove from heat.

Instead of ketchup or mustard, spread some of your favorite salsa or hot sauce on your bun, then fill the sliced dog with jalapeños nos, salsa, sour cream, diced tomatoes, and some shredded Mexican cheese. Delicioso!

LOADED POTATO DOG

For this dog, prepare your campfire, place the Folding Campfire Grill over the flames, so your dogs get hot and roasty without burning. Arrange your hot dogs on the grate, and rotate the dogs every few minutes with Pivot Tongs to avoid uneven cooking. Remove from heat when cooked through.

Place your hot dog on a bun and top with a dollop of sour cream. Sprinkle on some crushed potato chips, chopped chives, bacon bits, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mmm, mmm.

Whether your go-to is ketchup and relish or you want to opt for one of these eccentric recipes, the hot dog bar will be your next choice for group campsite meals.
