Our Favorite Winter Cocktails

1. HOT TODDY

Ingredients:

1 oz (2 tablespoons) of brown liquor, brandy, whiskey, rum or bourbon

1 tablespoon honey

2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

1/4 cup boiling-hot water

Lemon wedge & cinnamon stick for garnish

 

Preparation: 

Put liquor, honey, and lemon juice in a 6-ounce mug. Top off with hot water and stir until honey has dissolved. Finish off the drink with a squeeze of lemon juice and garnish with a lemon wedge and cinnamon stick.

2.MULLED WINE

Mulled wine is the perfect heart-warming drink in the middle of winter, and it’s easy to make in large servings while hosting. Drink up!

 

Ingredients:

4 cups apple cider

1 (750-ml) bottle red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon

1/4 cup honey

2 cinnamon sticks

1 orange and 1 grapefruit, zested and juiced

4 whole cloves

3 star anise

4 oranges, lemons or grapefruit - peeled, for garnish

 

Preparation:

Combine the cider, wine, honey, cinnamon sticks, zest, juice, cloves and star anise in a large saucepan, bring to a boil and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. (Fun tip: You can also create this in our coffee boiler and percolator. Put the mulled spices and oranges in the percolator for an easy clean up!You can also pour all these ingredients into a slow cooker and let it sit for a few hours (3-4) until you are ready to serve. Pour into mugs, add an orange peel or lemon to each and serve!

3.HOT BUTTERED RUM

Ingredients:

2/3 cup packed dark brown sugar

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature

1/4 cup honey

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

Splash of vanilla

Pinch of salt

3/4 cup dark rum

2 cups boiling water

Cinnamon sticks for garnish

Preparation:

Gather all spices, butter and sugar and mix either with a muddler, electric mixer or food processor until smooth. Pour the rum into the mixture and then add the hot water, mixing until smooth and all ingredients dissolve. Divide the mixture into 4 mugs and garnish with cinnamon sticks!
