How to Spend Winter in Washington

Don’t let cold weather stop you from going on outdoor adventures! Our home state of Washington is a wonderful place to experience a winter wonderland. Here are some of our favorite ways to spend winter in Washington.

Relax in a Hot Spring

There’s really no better way to spend a day than to hike through the snow to one of Washington’s iconic hot springs. From deep in the forest hiking to resort and spa owned, each hot spring offers its own unique experience. Some of our favorite spots are Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort, Scenic Hot Springs, and Goldmyer Hot Springs. Don’t forget to pack your bathing suit and a towel!

Take a Hike

Washington is known for its endless number of hiking trails. Getting out and enjoying Washington’s beautiful trails doesn’t have to stop when the weather gets cold! Your favorite hikes have a completely different scenery in the winter that are well worth the additional layers you’ll have to wear. Check out our favorite hikes in Washington blog post to read about our top picks.

Ski & Snowboard

Washington is home to 16 mountain resorts making it a paradise for snowboarding and skiing. Whether you’re brand new and trying the pizza-french fry method or are ready to master the backcountry, Washington has some of the best mountains in the country. The type of snow varies from resort to resort, but you’ll have an amazing day on the slopes no matter where you go. Some of our favorite resorts are Stevens Pass Resort, Crystal Mountain Resort, and 49° North Mountain Ski & Snowboard Resort.

Try Snowshoeing

Snowboarding and skiing aren’t your thing? No problem! You can still enjoy Washington’s beautiful mountain range with snowshoeing. Some of Washington’s best views, hot springs, and cabins are only accessible by snowshoe, so it’s a great way to spend time outside in the winter!

Visit Leavenworth

You’ll feel like the main character in a holiday Hallmark movie when you spend a long weekend in Leavenworth. Leavenworth, WA, is a resort town that resembles a rustic Bavarian village in the Alps. Enjoy the charming downtown filled with dazzling lights during the holiday season. Make sure to have a German beer and schnitzel while you’re there!

Try Winter Camping

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of camping around here. At GSI, we don’t let winter weather scare us away from going on a camping trip. The main benefit of winter camping is the lack of competition for spots. Even the most popular camping sites will feel like the backcountry during the winter.
